Bricktown
Oklahoma City Entertainment District; Canal Built With MAPS Funds And Opened 1999 · Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
Oklahoma City's warehouse district turned entertainment quarter, a grid of red-brick produce warehouses east of downtown that stood half-empty for decades and was rebuilt after the 1993 MAPS vote paid for a mile-long canal cut through the middle of it. Water taxis run the canal past restaurants, bars and patios; the Bricktown Ballpark, home of the Oklahoma City Comets, sits at the north end; the Centennial Land Run Monument at the canal's south end is a set of larger-than-life bronze horses and wagons mid-stampede, one of the largest bronze groups in the world. Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark game nights, the Thunder at Paycom Center a few blocks west and the Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon fill the district. It is a five-minute walk from the Oklahoma City National Memorial and the streetcar loops through it.
