Bridgeport Covered Bridge

Historic Bridge · Penn Valley, California

The longest single-span covered bridge left standing anywhere in the world, at 233 feet, built in 1862 to carry gold rush traffic and timber over the South Yuba River. It closed in 2011 as unsafe, was dismantled, repaired and rebuilt over a decade, and reopened in 2021 — which is why it looks better now than it has in a century.

South Yuba River State Park, 17660 Pleasant Valley Road, Penn Valley, California, 95946, United States

Bridge open daily in daylight, free. Visitor centre keeps seasonal hours.
