Brooklyn Children's Museum

Childrens Museum · Brooklyn, New York

⚠ THE FIRST CHILDREN'S MUSEUM IN THE WORLD, founded 1899 in Crown Heights on the principle that children should handle objects rather than look at them — an idea that had no precedent and that every children's museum since has copied. It moved into a Rafael Viñoly building in 2008 clad in yellow ceramic tile, and it holds a collection of some 30,000 objects, which most children's museums do not.
