Buckingham Fountain

Modern Monument · Chicago, Illinois

One of the largest fountains in the world, given to Chicago in 1927 by Kate Buckingham in memory of her brother and set at the centre of Grant Park facing the lake. It is modelled on the Latona Fountain at Versailles and built at roughly twice the size, with four pairs of bronze sea horses standing for the four states that border Lake Michigan. At the top of the hour it throws a single jet a hundred and fifty feet into the air.

301 South Columbus Drive, Chicago, Illinois, 60605, United States

Water display roughly early May to mid-October only — DRAINED AND OFF in winter. In season, 20-minute display on the hour, with colour and music after dark to about 11 PM. Free.
