Bueng Si Fai

Large Lake Park On The Edge Of Phichit Town With A Giant Crocodile Statue · Phichit, Phichit

Bueng Si Fai is a large natural lake on the edge of Phichit town in the lower north of Thailand, turned into a public park where local families come to walk, cycle, fish, picnic and watch the sunset over the water. Its best-known landmark is a giant crocodile statue on the shore, a huge sculpture that recalls the Krai Thong legend, Phichit's famous folk tale of the crocodile king Chalawan and the hero Krai Thong who fought him, and it appears in countless photographs of the province. The park has held a freshwater aquarium with fish of Thai rivers, lawns and gardens, shaded pavilions, a long path around the lake for cyclists and walkers, and reedbeds and open water that draw waterbirds, especially in the cool season. It is a relaxed local park rather than a destination, best combined with Phichit's other sights: the Old City historical park with the ruins of Wat Mahathat, the revered Wat Tha Luang in town, the Nan river and the pomelo orchards the province is known for. Trains on the northern line stop at Phichit, roughly 5 hours from Bangkok.

NO OPENING TIME HERE WAS CHECKED. The typical pattern: the lake park at Bueng Si Fai is open every day as a public park, from early morning to evening, roughly 5 am to 8 pm, with the paths busiest at dawn and dusk; the freshwater aquarium keeps shorter daytime hours, roughly 9 am to 4 pm, and may close one day a week, often Monday, and on some holidays. Bicycle rentals and stalls operate mainly in the late afternoon and at weekends. The Old City historical park and temples open in daylight. The traps are arriving at noon in the hot season, reaching the aquarium on its closing day or after it shuts, expecting bike rentals on a weekday morning, and being out on the dark shore path without lights. Confirm current times before relying on them.
