THE FORMER ALBRIGHT-KNOX ART GALLERY, collecting since 1862 and renamed in 2023 when a campus expansion added the Robert and Elisabeth Wilmers Building to the 1905 Greek Revival Knox Building and the 1962 Gundlach Building. Its modern and contemporary holdings are far stronger than a city of Buffalo's size would suggest — this is a collection assembled with early money and unusually good nerve, and it bought abstraction while it was still unpopular.
