Buffalo Bill Ranch State Historical Park
State Historical Park At William F. Cody'S Scout'S Rest Ranch (Nebraska Game And Parks Commission) · North Platte, Nebraska
Buffalo Bill Ranch State Historical Park preserves Scout's Rest Ranch, the home that William F. Cody, the scout, buffalo hunter and showman known as Buffalo Bill, built on the north side of North Platte in west central Nebraska. The centrepiece is his 1886 house, a tall, white, ornate Victorian home with a mansard roof and a wraparound porch, furnished with period pieces and Cody belongings, and beside it a huge barn with the words Scout's Rest Ranch painted on the roof, which holds exhibits and posters from his Wild West show. North Platte's 1882 Fourth of July celebration, the Old Glory Blowout, which Cody helped organise, is often described as a forerunner of both the modern rodeo and the Wild West show that took him around the world. The park, run by the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission, has grounds with trees and a pond and bison have been kept nearby. It is a pleasant one to two hour stop off I-80, open fully only in summer, and best combined with the rail sights of North Platte.

NO OPENING TIME HERE WAS CHECKED. The typical pattern: the house and barn open for a summer season, roughly late May to early September, daily, about 9 am to 5 pm, with limited days or weekends only in spring and early autumn; closed in winter. The grounds are generally open year-round in daylight, with a park entry permit required. The traps that ruin a visit are arriving between October and April expecting the house, forgetting the vehicle permit, arriving in the last half hour, and driving in without a hotel during NEBRASKAland Days. Confirm current times before relying on them.
