Buluan Island and the Sibugay Mangroves

Replanted Mangrove Forest And A Sandbar Island, In A Province Created In 2001 That Receives Almost No Visitors · Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay

ZAMBOANGA SIBUGAY WAS CREATED AS A PROVINCE IN 2001 AND RECEIVES ALMOST NO VISITORS OF ANY KIND. What it has is COASTLINE: a long indented bay, fishing and seaweed farming, and SUBSTANTIAL MANGROVE FOREST INCLUDING LARGE REPLANTED AREAS - the province has been one of the more determined mangrove rehabilitators in Mindanao, because the storms and the fishponds took the original stands and people here understood what that cost them. BULUAN ISLAND, OFF IPIL, IS A SMALL SANDBAR AND REEF ISLAND used as a day trip by local families and almost nobody else. THE HONEST FRAMING: THIS IS NOT A DESTINATION AND DOES NOT PRETEND TO BE. It is a working coastal province with quiet water, good seafood and no infrastructure, and it is here because a country is more than the places that advertise. Check current travel advice for the peninsula. Boats are arranged at the shore; there is no operator, no schedule and no ticket office.
