Burt Lake State Park
Michigan State Park · Indian River, Michigan
Burt Lake State Park is a Michigan state park on Burt Lake, near the town of Indian River in the northern Lower Peninsula. The park is built around a sandy swimming beach, a wooded campground and a boat launch, and it sits on the Inland Waterway, the chain of lakes and rivers that links Burt Lake to Mullett Lake and on toward Lake Huron. Inland water here is warmer than Lake Michigan or Lake Huron, which makes the beach a good choice for families with young children. The park is small compared with the big Upper Peninsula parks, so it is a place for a beach day, a weekend of camping or a boat trip, not a long hike or a wilderness trek. Expect families, anglers and boaters. Summer weekends can be crowded at the beach and boat launch. A Michigan Recreation Passport is needed for vehicles, and campsites usually need an advance reservation, so confirm fees, facilities and dates before you plan the trip.

Michigan state parks are generally open daily from morning until late evening, and Burt Lake is usually treated as a day-use park and campground that stays open through much of the year, with the swimming beach and camping busiest from late May to early September. Check the Michigan DNR listing for current hours, campground open dates, any shower or building closures and winter access. Services shrink outside summer, some buildings may close, and snow can limit roads and campsites. A Recreation Passport is needed for a vehicle, and camping is booked in advance. Confirm all dates and hours before you go.
