C.M. Russell Museum
Art Museum · Great Falls, Montana
The largest collection anywhere of Charles Marion Russell, who came to Montana at sixteen in 1880, worked as a night wrangler for eleven years, and painted the open range from inside it rather than from a studio in the east. The museum holds around two thousand works and sits on the block in Great Falls where he lived — HIS ACTUAL HOUSE AND HIS LOG STUDIO STILL STAND ON THE SITE, with his saddles and his Blackfeet friends' gifts in the studio where he made the paintings. That combination is what makes this more than a regional art museum.
400 13th Street North, Great Falls, Montana, 59401, United States
Open most of the year, generally 10:00 to 17:00, but CLOSED ON SOME WEEKDAYS OUTSIDE THE SUMMER SEASON — historically Mondays and Tuesdays in winter — so check before travelling. Admission is charged; parking on site is free. The log studio and house are open with museum admission on a seasonal schedule. Western Art Week in March is the busiest period and the museum auction is separately ticketed.
