Caddo and LBJ National Grasslands
Public Land · Decatur, Texas
Two federal grassland units north of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex — the Lyndon B. Johnson near Decatur and the Caddo near Bonham — totalling roughly 38,000 acres of restored tallgrass prairie, post oak savanna and small lakes. They are land the federal government bought back after Depression-era farming failed on it, and they are now the closest thing the Metroplex has to open country with equestrian trails, free dispersed camping and dark sky.
