Caddo Lake State Park

Subnational Park · Karnack, Texas

A small East Texas park on Big Cypress Bayou giving access to Caddo Lake — 26,810 acres of bald cypress hung with Spanish moss, a maze of sloughs and bayous that looks like nowhere else in the state. It is Texas's only large naturally formed lake, created when a colossal log jam called the Great Raft dammed the Red River and drowned the bottomlands, and it is a RAMSAR Wetland of International Importance, a designation held by only a handful of wetlands in the United States.
