Cadillac Ranch
Modern Monument · Amarillo, Texas
Ten Cadillacs buried nose-down in a Panhandle wheat field at the angle of the Great Pyramid, installed in 1974 by the art collective Ant Farm for Amarillo eccentric Stanley Marsh 3. Visitors are not just allowed but expected to spray-paint the cars, so the piece repaints itself daily and has become one of the most recognized roadside images in the world — the Route 66 photograph.
