Calico Ghost Town

A silver town that produced $20 million between 1881 and 1907 and then emptied. Walter Knott, who built Knott's Berry Farm, had worked here as a young man and bought the site in 1951 to restore it — which is why Calico is a reconstruction with a theme-park hand rather than a preserved ruin. It sits directly off Interstate 15 between Los Angeles and Las Vegas.
