Calvert Marine Museum
Specialty Museum · Solomons, Maryland
A museum at Solomons that does three things at once and is unusually good at all of them: the fossils of the Calvert Cliffs, the ecology of the Patuxent estuary, and the maritime history of the lower Chesapeake. The Drum Point Lighthouse stands on the lawn — an 1883 screwpile cottage lifted off its legs in 1975 and brought here, one of only three cottage-type screwpiles left from a bay that once had dozens. The 1899 bugeye tied at the dock still takes passengers out.
14200 Solomons Island Road, Solomons, Maryland, 20688, United States
Generally open daily, roughly 10 AM to 5 PM, with a REDUCED WEEK IN WINTER and closure on major holidays — verify before travelling. Admission covers the galleries and short guided visits into Drum Point Lighthouse, which run at set times posted daily. THE WM. B. TENNISON RIVER CRUISE IS SEASONAL, charged separately, booked ahead and weather-dependent; it does not run in winter.
