Traditional Amusement Park On Canobie Lake In Salem, Opened In 1902 As A Trolley Park Just Over The Massachusetts Line And A Day Trip From Boston, With Wooden And Steel Roller Coasters, A Water Play Area And A Boat On The Lake (Ride Names Change; Confirm The Current Line Up). · Salem, New Hampshire
A traditional amusement park on the shore of Canobie Lake in Salem, New Hampshire, a few minutes north of the Massachusetts line and about 35 miles from Boston. It opened in 1902 as a trolley park, one of the pleasure grounds that street railway companies built at the end of their lines to sell weekend fares, and it still has the feel of that era: shady lawns, a lakeside promenade, old-style games and a vintage carousel next to modern rides. Unlike the big corporate parks, it is compact and walkable, with wooden and steel roller coasters, a looping coaster, a large water-splash ride, a dark ride, spinning thrill rides, a children's area, a water play zone and a paddle-wheel boat that cruises the lake (confirm the current line-up). The season runs from weekends in spring to daily operation in summer, followed by a Halloween event on autumn nights. Just off Interstate 93 at exit 2, it is the easiest full-size amusement park day trip from Boston, southern New Hampshire and the Merrimack Valley, and it fills on hot summer weekends.

It usually opens on weekends from about late April or May, runs daily from roughly mid-June through Labor Day, and then returns to a few weekend days in September (confirm the calendar each year). Daytime hours run roughly late morning to evening, with the latest closing on summer weekend nights. A separate Halloween event with haunted attractions has run on autumn evenings, roughly late September through October, on its own ticket (confirm).
