Cantigny Park

Historic House · Wheaton, Illinois

The five-hundred-acre Wheaton estate of Robert R. McCormick, publisher of the Chicago Tribune, left as a public park on his death in 1955. It is named for the Battle of Cantigny in 1918, the first American offensive of the First World War, in which McCormick served with the 1st Infantry Division — which is why there is a military museum in the grounds and a row of tanks on the lawn that children are allowed to climb on.

1S151 Winfield Road, Wheaton, Illinois, 60189, United States

Grounds and gardens Wednesday to Monday, March through October — CLOSED TUESDAYS and largely closed in winter. No admission charge; a per-vehicle parking fee applies. McCormick House reopens 1 April 2026, free through 2026.
