Cape Disappointment State Park

Subnational Park · Ilwaco, Washington

Two thousand acres of old-growth forest, marsh and headland where the Columbia River meets the Pacific, holding two lighthouses and the point at which the Lewis and Clark expedition finally reached the ocean in November 1805. The Cape Disappointment Light of 1856 is the oldest working lighthouse in the Pacific Northwest. Immediately offshore is the Columbia Bar, where the river fights the ocean over a shifting sandbar and where something in the region of two thousand vessels have been lost - the Graveyard of the Pacific.

244 Robert Gray Drive, Ilwaco, Washington, 98624, United States

Park open year round, generally 6:30 AM to dusk, with camping all year. The Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center keeps its own hours and is often closed on some weekdays outside summer. A Discover Pass is required to park. North Head Lighthouse tours are seasonal.
