Cape Flattery

Cliffs · Neah Bay, Washington

The northwesternmost point of the contiguous United States, where the Strait of Juan de Fuca meets the Pacific, reached by a three-quarter-mile boardwalk and trail through coastal rainforest to a set of railed platforms on the cliff edge. It sits entirely within the Makah Reservation and access is by tribal permit. Tatoosh Island and its lighthouse stand offshore, sea caves undercut the headland below, and on a clear day Vancouver Island fills the northern horizon.

Cape Loop Road, Neah Bay, Washington, 98357, United States

The trail is open daylight hours, year round, weather permitting. A MAKAH RECREATION PASS IS REQUIRED and must be bought in Neah Bay before you drive out to the trailhead - there is nowhere to buy one at the cape. Passes are sold at shops and the museum in town during business hours, which effectively sets the hours of the visit.
