Cape Kiwanda State Natural Area
Beach · Pacific City, Oregon
A sandstone headland at Pacific City on the north Oregon coast, sheltered from the open ocean by Haystack Rock offshore - a different and larger Haystack Rock from the one at Cannon Beach, and one of three on this coast. The sandstone is soft, yellow and dramatically eroded, there is a very large dune to climb behind the beach, and the sheltered water is the reason the dory fleet has launched straight off this sand for over a century.

The beach and the natural area are open at all times and FREE - all Oregon beaches are public to the high tide line by state law, and parking at the state natural area car park is free. ⚠ THE CAR PARK FILLS BY MID-MORNING IN SEASON. Vehicles are permitted on a designated section of the beach. ⚠ THE SANDSTONE HEADLAND UNDERCUTS AND COLLAPSES and there have been fatal falls from beyond the fence line - the fences mark real hazards. The dory fleet launches in the mornings in the summer season.
