Cape Lookout State Park

Subnational Park · Tillamook, Oregon

A state park in Tillamook County south of the city of Tillamook, occupying a sand spit between Netarts Bay and the Pacific and the forested headland of Cape Lookout beyond it. The spit carries a long beach and a large campground in the trees; the cape itself is a two-and-a-half-mile trail out along a narrow forested ridge to a viewpoint several hundred feet above the ocean, which in winter is one of the best whale-watching positions on the Oregon coast.

Cape Lookout Road, Tillamook, Oregon, United States

Day use is open during daylight hours with a day-use parking fee; the campground operates year-round and is reserved separately through the Oregon State Parks reservation system. ⚠ THE CAPE TRAIL IS FREQUENTLY MUDDY TO THE POINT OF BEING A DIFFERENT WALK than the map suggests, and sections have been closed by landslide in the past. Check the park page before travelling if the headland trail is the point.
