Capilano Suspension Bridge Park

Private Heritage Attraction · North Vancouver, British Columbia

Capilano Suspension Bridge Park is a private attraction in North Vancouver, British Columbia, about 15 minutes by car from downtown. Its main feature is a suspension bridge about 137 m long and 70 m above the Capilano River, first built of hemp rope and cedar planks in 1889 and replaced with steel cable since. The park also has Treetops Adventure, a series of small bridges between old Douglas firs, and the Cliffwalk, a narrow cantilevered walkway along the granite canyon wall. The park sits on Squamish Nation territory, and Kia'palano tells part of that story with totem poles and an exhibit. It suits families, first-time visitors and photographers. It is also expensive and busy, with crowds on the bridge in summer. Allow two to three hours. Lynn Canyon Park, about 20 minutes away, has a smaller suspension bridge that is free, so decide whether the extras at Capilano justify the price and confirm current admission.

The park is open daily through the year, with hours that change by season: longer days in summer and earlier closing in winter. In winter, the Canyon Lights display runs in the evening, usually from late November to January, so confirm dates and ticket times. Opening time is the quietest window, and late afternoon in summer is the busiest. Hours and admission change by year, so confirm on the official site before you travel. A free shuttle has run from downtown Vancouver hotels and Canada Place in season, with a seasonal schedule; confirm pickup points and whether it is running. City buses also stop nearby, and the park may close in severe weather.
