Carl Sandburg Home National Historic Site
Historic House · Flat Rock, North Carolina
Connemara, the farm at Flat Rock where Carl Sandburg spent the last twenty-two years of his life and wrote more than a third of everything he published. He moved here in 1945 - a Midwesterner, for the quiet - and his wife Lilian moved her champion dairy goat herd onto the thirty acres of pasture. The house is preserved as the family left it, with around eleven thousand of his books still on the shelves, and the descendants of Lilian's goats are still in the barn.
