Carolina Beach State Park
Subnational Park · Carolina Beach, North Carolina
Seven hundred and sixty-one acres on Pleasure Island where the Cape Fear River meets Snow's Cut, and one of the best places in the world to see Venus flytraps growing wild - they occur naturally only within about a hundred miles of Wilmington and essentially nowhere else on earth. The park protects pocosin wetland, longleaf pine savanna and coastal forest, and part of it is leased from the Army.
1010 State Park Road, Carolina Beach, North Carolina, 28428, United States
FREE and open daily, with monthly hours from roughly 8 AM to 6 PM in winter and later in summer. Closed Christmas Day. The marina and boat ramp have their own hours. ⚠ THERE IS NO OCEAN SWIMMING BEACH IN THE PARK despite the name - the park fronts the Cape Fear River and Snow's Cut, not the Atlantic. The town beach is separate and a short drive away.
