Cathedral Caverns State Park

Alabama State Park · Woodville, Alabama

A show cave near Woodville in north Alabama whose entrance is around 126 feet wide and 25 feet high — among the largest cave entrances in the world, and one you walk into rather than descend a shaft to reach. Inside stands Goliath, a stalagmite roughly 45 feet tall and some 243 feet in circumference, which is one of the largest anywhere on Earth and is still growing. A local man spent decades developing it from the 1950s; it became a state park in 2000, and the tour path is paved and level for its whole length.

637 Cathedral Caverns Road, Woodville, Alabama, 35769, United States

Guided tours only, running roughly hourly through the day and lasting about ninety minutes, with fewer departures in winter. The cave is a steady 60F year round. Check alapark.com for current tour times before travelling.
