Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels

Modern Architecture · Los Angeles, California

Rafael Moneo's cathedral above the Hollywood Freeway, dedicated in 2002, built with almost no right angles and lit through alabaster rather than stained glass — a material choice that gives the whole interior a warm, shadowless light nobody expects from the concrete outside. It is free to walk into and most people who do are not there for a service.

555 West Temple Street, Los Angeles, California, 90012, United States

Open daily, generally 06:30 to 18:00, free. Nave closes to sightseers during Mass.
