Catskill Park

Subnational Park · Mount Tremper, New York

Seven hundred thousand acres across four counties a hundred miles north of New York City, of which roughly forty percent is state Forest Preserve protected FOREVER WILD by the same 1894 constitutional clause that covers the Adirondacks. Like the Adirondacks it has no gate and no boundary you can feel — private land, working farms and whole villages sit inside the line, and the mountains here were painted into the American imagination by the Hudson River School before anyone thought to protect them.

5096 Route 28, Mount Tremper, New York, 12457, United States

The park has NO ENTRANCE, NO GATE, NO FEE and no hours — it is a 700,000-acre region containing private land, farms and villages. The Maurice D. Hinchey Catskill Interpretive Center on Route 28, where this pin sits, is free and keeps its own seasonal hours. State campgrounds are largely seasonal and several mountain roads including Platte Clove are CLOSED AND UNPLOWED ALL WINTER. ⚠ NOT VERIFIED FOR THIS FILE.
