Cedar Key
Old Town · Cedar Key, Florida
A town of about seven hundred people on an island three miles into the Gulf at the end of State Road 24, and the least developed coastal community left in Florida. When the 1995 net ban destroyed the fishery the state retrained the fishermen as clam farmers, and Cedar Key became one of the largest producers of farmed clams in the United States — a genuine second act rather than a tourism pivot.
