Cerro Catedral Ski Resort

One Of The Largest Ski Areas In South America, 20 Km From Bariloche Inside Nahuel Huapi National Park; Skiing On The Mountain Dates From The 1930s · San Carlos de Bariloche, Rio Negro

Cerro Catedral is the big ski mountain above Bariloche, named for its jagged granite spires, and one of the largest ski areas in South America, with dozens of lifts and well over a hundred kilometres of runs spread across a long ridge. Its great attraction is the view: from the upper slopes the whole of Lago Nahuel Huapi and the Andes spread out below, which few ski resorts anywhere can match. The terrain suits every level, from long cruising blue runs to off-piste bowls, and the snow can be excellent or thin depending on the year. In the Argentine winter holidays in July it is packed with families from across the country and with Brazilians, for whom it is the classic snow trip, and prices rise sharply. At the base, Villa Catedral has hotels, rentals and restaurants, and Bariloche is twenty minutes away by bus. In summer the lifts carry hikers and mountain bikers, and the base is the start of the classic trail to Refugio Frey under the granite spires. Wind can close the upper lifts, and fog comes in off the lake.
