Chai Nat Bird Park
Bird Park With A Large Egg Shaped Aviary; The Chao Phraya Dam Lies Nearby · Chai Nat, Chai Nat
Chai Nat Bird Park is a large public park on the edge of Chai Nat town, on the central plains about three hours north of Bangkok, and it is the best-known sight of a quiet agricultural province that most travellers pass straight through. Its signature is a huge walk-through aviary built in the shape of an egg, where paths lead among trees, ponds and perches under a high mesh roof and a range of birds, from waterbirds to parrots and pheasants, can be seen at close quarters. Around it the park spreads over lawns, gardens and ponds dotted with giant bird statues, playgrounds and shady spots, and it has had an aquarium of freshwater fish on site. Thai families come at weekends to picnic and walk. Chai Nat is where the Chao Phraya river is held back by the Chao Phraya Dam, the head of the great irrigation system of the central plains, and the province is famous for its sweet pomelos, grown around Khao Taeng Kwa and celebrated at an annual fair.

NO OPENING TIME HERE WAS CHECKED. The typical pattern: the park is open every day from roughly 6 or 7 am for walkers, with the aviary and aquarium open roughly 8 or 8.30 am to 5 or 6 pm and last entry about an hour before; the aquarium may close one day a week or for maintenance. The Chai Nat Muni National Museum opens roughly 9 am to 4 pm and is closed on its weekly closing day, typically early in the week. Temples are open daily from morning to early evening. The traps that ruin a day are arriving in the midday heat when the birds are quiet, finding the aquarium closed, reaching the museum on its closing day and driving riverside roads in the flood season. Confirm current times before relying on them.
