Cham Islands

UNESCO Cu Lao Cham Hoi An Biosphere Reserve (2009). Granite Islands With Clear Water, Snorkelling And Diving, Small Beaches, A Fishing Village And A Swallow Nest Harvest. A Day Trip From Hoi An Or Da Nang, With A Few Homestays For An Overnight. Boats Do Not Run In Rough Sea From September To December · Hoi An, Quang Nam

Cu Lao Cham is a group of eight granite islands about 15 km off the coast of central Vietnam, part of the Cu Lao Cham-Hoi An Biosphere Reserve, listed by UNESCO in 2009. Most visitors come on a day trip from Hoi An: a speedboat leaves from the Cua Dai pier area, takes roughly 20 to 30 minutes in calm sea, and lands at Bai Lang or Bai Huong village on the main island, Hon Lao. The day usually means snorkelling over coral, lunch of seafood in the village, and a stop at Hai Tang beach or a quiet cove. The water is clear on a good day, the island is green and small, and a few families run homestays for travellers who stay overnight. A marine reserve fee is charged on top of the boat ticket. Be honest about limits: the reef is patchy after storms and heavy tourism, the day trips are crowded in high season, and boats do not run when the sea is rough, often from about September to December. There are rules against single-use plastic. Hoi An, the nearby old town, is a separate tier 1 row.

There is no gate or ticket office hours. Boats leave from the mainland in the morning, commonly between about 8 and 10 am, and the last boats return in the afternoon. Day trips run daily in the calm season. Sea closures happen when waves or storms make crossings unsafe, often from about September to December, and the harbour authority can stop all boats for days. Walking in the village and on the beaches is FREE, but the marine reserve fee and the boat ticket are paid. No day of the week is closed. Confirm sailing on the morning itself.
