Chandranath Hill & Temple

Sacred Mountain · Sitakunda, Chattogram

A sacred mountain rising about 350 metres straight off the coastal plain at Sitakunda, crowned by the Chandranath Shiva temple - one of the Shakti pithas of Hindu tradition and the goal of a stair-and-path pilgrimage climb of roughly two hours that mixes sadhus, families and day-hikers all year. At the Shiva Chaturdashi festival (February-March) the mountain becomes one of the largest Hindu gatherings in Bangladesh, with hundreds of thousands ascending over the mela days. The summit pays in every direction: the Bay of Bengal one way, the green Sitakunda range the other, with the eco-park waterfalls on the adjacent slopes.

Sitakunda Bazar, Dhaka-Chattogram Highway, Sitakunda, Chattogram, Bangladesh

The pilgrimage path is open year-round without ticket, effectively dawn to dusk - climbers should be moving up by early morning and off the mountain by dark. The summit temple keeps daily worship hours. Shiva Chaturdashi (February-March, lunar) brings the mela and transforms access for several days - check dates locally.
