Chapel of the Holy Cross

Catholic Chapel (Diocese Of Phoenix) On Coconino National Forest Land · Sedona, Arizona

A Catholic chapel built in 1956 into a red rock butte in the southern hills of Sedona, with a huge cross forming its front wall and windows that look out over Bell Rock and the red rock country. It was commissioned by the sculptor Marguerite Brunswig Staude, who had imagined such a church for years, and it won a national architecture award soon after it opened. It stands on Coconino National Forest land and belongs to the Diocese of Phoenix. Entry is free and it is open daily, but parking is very limited, the walk up is steep, and it is a working place of prayer as well as one of Sedona's most visited sightseeing stops.
