Charles Pinckney National Historic Site

National Historic Site · Mount Pleasant, South Carolina

Twenty-eight acres of what was Snee Farm, the country retreat of Charles Pinckney, a principal author of the United States Constitution. The plantation house he knew is gone: the tidy white cottage standing here today was built in 1828, after his time, and the site is candid that visitors are not looking at his house. What the place is really about is the enslaved community whose labour ran the farm, and the archaeology that is recovering them.

1240 Long Point Road, Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, 29464, United States

FREE. Open daily, generally 9 AM to 5 PM, closed on major federal holidays. The grounds and the interpretive trail are open the same hours. It is a small site with a house museum and a short walk, and it sits on a suburban road in Mount Pleasant rather than in open country, which surprises people expecting a plantation landscape.
