Chena Hot Springs Resort

Privately Owned Hot Springs Resort · Fairbanks, Alaska

A resort at the end of Chena Hot Springs Road, about 60 miles north-east of Fairbanks, built around natural hot springs discovered by gold miners in 1905. An outdoor rock-lined lake of mineral water lets adults soak while snow falls or the aurora flickers overhead, and an indoor pool serves families. The resort runs its own geothermal power plant, heats greenhouses that grow vegetables through the Arctic winter, and keeps the Aurora Ice Museum frozen all year: a gallery of ice sculptures, chandeliers and an ice bar serving drinks in carved ice glasses. From late August to April it is one of the most popular places in Alaska to watch the northern lights, with overnight aurora tours from Fairbanks. In 2026 Aurora Ice Museum tours cost $20 for adults and $15 for children, running at 11 AM, 1, 3, 5 and 7 PM daily.
