Cherry Springs State Park

State Park — International Dark Sky Park, Gold Tier · Coudersport, Pennsylvania

Eighty-odd acres on a bald hilltop in Potter County, surrounded on every side by the Susquehannock State Forest and about as far from a city as it is possible to get in the eastern United States. It is one of a very small number of Gold-tier International Dark Sky Parks anywhere in the world, and on a clear moonless night the Milky Way casts a shadow here. The park exists for one thing: from the field, on a good night, roughly ten thousand stars are visible to the naked eye.

4639 Cherry Springs Road, Coudersport, Pennsylvania, 16915, United States

Open year round. The free Night Sky Public Viewing Area is open at all hours. The Overnight Astronomy Observation Field is fee-based and permit-controlled, with strict white-light restrictions and a rule that vehicles stay until dawn or leave before full dark. The access road is not always ploughed promptly in winter.
