Chickasaw Cultural Center

Chickasaw Nation Cultural Centre; Opened 2010 · Sulphur, Oklahoma

One of the largest tribal cultural centres in the United States, opened in 2010 on 184 acres beside Chickasaw National Recreation Area in Sulphur. The campus is built as a set of linked buildings and outdoor spaces rather than a single museum: the Chikasha Poya Exhibit Center tells the nation's history from its Mississippi homeland through removal on the Trail of Tears to the modern Chickasaw Nation, the Holisso research centre holds archives and genealogy, and the Anoli' Theater shows films in a domed auditorium. Outside, the Chikasha Inchokka' traditional village has thatched summer and winter houses, a council house and a stickball field where demonstrations, stomp dances and stickball games are held. The Aaimpa' Cafe serves pashofa, grape dumplings and Indian tacos, and the sky terrace looks over the Arbuckle hills.
