Chico Hot Springs

Hot Spring · Pray, Montana

A wooden hotel from 1900 in Paradise Valley with two open-air pools fed by a hot spring, half an hour north of Yellowstone's Gardiner entrance and about the same south of Livingston. The water arrives at around 110 degrees, runs through the pools by gravity and drains straight out — there is no chlorine in it because there does not need to be. The dining room is genuinely one of the better restaurants in Montana, which is not what anyone expects from a hot spring at the end of a gravel road, and the whole thing has been running more or less continuously for a century and a quarter.

163 Chico Road, Pray, Montana, 59065, United States

Open year round. The pools keep long hours daily including evenings and are open to day users as well as hotel guests, with day passes sold at the pool building; there is no capacity booking and winter weekend evenings are very busy. Swimwear is required at all times. The dining room requires a reservation and fills, particularly at weekends. The historic hotel, cabins and newer rooms book separately.
