Chihuly Garden and Glass
Art Museum · Seattle, Washington
A permanent exhibition of Dale Chihuly's glass at the foot of the Space Needle, opened in 2012 on the site of the old Fun Forest fairground. It is arranged as eight interior galleries, a forty-foot glasshouse holding a hundred-foot suspended sculpture, and an outdoor garden where the glass is planted among real plants and the two are meant to be hard to tell apart. Chihuly is from Tacoma, an hour south, and this is the definitive collection of the work of the most widely recognised glass artist alive.
305 Harrison Street, Seattle, Washington, 98109, United States
Open daily year round, generally from late morning until evening, with longer hours in summer. Timed entry. The Garden and Glasshouse stay open after dark in winter, when they are lit, and that is the better visit. Check the website for the day, as closing times move seasonally and for private events.
