Chimelong Safari Park

Part Of The Chimelong Tourist Resort, A National 5A Tourist Attraction · Guangzhou, Guangdong

One of the largest and most visited wildlife parks in China, spread over hilly subtropical forest in Panyu on the southern edge of Guangzhou, where thousands of animals from hundreds of species live in large open enclosures. Opened in 1997 as the first part of the Chimelong resort, it is best known for its giant pandas, above all the world's first surviving panda triplets, Meng Meng, Shuai Shuai and Ku Ku, born here in 2014; Meng Meng later became a mother herself, giving birth to her cub Mei Zhu in 2024. The park is divided into a safari zone, crossed by open-sided trains through wide grasslands where giraffes, zebras, rhinos, elephants, lions and bears roam, and a walking zone of themed areas with koalas, white tigers, red pandas, hippos, flamingos and a large collection of birds. Visitors can feed giraffes from a raised platform, watch keeper talks and animal presentations, and spend a full day moving between habitats. Its size, breeding successes and membership of the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums are praised, while animal shows have drawn criticism from welfare groups. Next door are the Chimelong Paradise theme park, the Chimelong Water Park and the Chimelong International Circus, making the resort a full-weekend family destination.
