Chimney Rock State Park
Subnational Park · Chimney Rock, North Carolina
A 315-foot free-standing gneiss monolith above the Hickory Nut Gorge, twenty-five miles south-east of Asheville, with an elevator cut through the mountain to reach the top and a 404-foot waterfall a short walk away. The park is 8,014 acres and takes in Lake Lure, the Devil's Head balancing rock and the Rumbling Bald climbing area. Hurricane Helene tore through this gorge in September 2024; the main attraction has reopened, but the park is still not whole.
