Coconino National Forest
National Forest · Flagstaff, Arizona
One of the most varied national forests in the country, running from the red rock country around Sedona up through ponderosa pine to the San Francisco Peaks above Flagstaff, where Humphreys Peak, 12,633 feet, is the highest point in Arizona. The peaks are sacred to more than a dozen tribes. The forest holds Oak Creek Canyon and its West Fork trail, the Sedona trailheads to Cathedral Rock and Devil's Bridge, the Lava River Cave, lakes on the Mogollon Rim and golden aspen groves in autumn. Many Sedona trailheads require a Red Rock Pass. It is among the most visited national forests in the country, and its best-known Sedona trailheads fill before sunrise.
