Colt State Park
Subnational Park · Bristol, Rhode Island
Four hundred and sixty-four acres of open field, stone wall and shoreline on Narragansett Bay at Bristol, laid out on what was a gentleman's stock farm and kept deliberately open rather than wooded. Four miles of paved path run through it, connecting to the East Bay Bike Path that runs fourteen and a half miles from Providence down to Bristol. Every road and path in the park ends at the water, which is the whole design, and it is free.
Route 114, Bristol, Rhode Island, 02809, United States
FREE, with free parking, open daily in daylight year round. There is no entrance charge for ordinary day use. ⚠ THE PICNIC SHELTERS AND GROUP AREAS OPERATE ON A RESERVATION SYSTEM from roughly the second Saturday in April to 31 October, with a charge; outside that window they revert to first-come, first-served with no fees. Four miles of paved, level path run through the park and connect to the East Bay Bike Path, a fourteen-and-a-half-mile paved rail-trail along Narragansett Bay from Providence to Bristol. Restrooms, picnic tables, grills, a playground and a boat launch are provided. The park is deliberately open field with very little shade, which makes a hot summer midday uncomfortable.
