Colville National Forest

National Forest · Colville, Washington

Roughly 1.1 million acres in the far northeast corner of Washington, between the Columbia and the Idaho line - the emptiest national forest in the state and the one almost no visitor from outside the region has heard of. It holds Sherman Pass, the highest maintained mountain pass in Washington at 5,575 feet, the Salmo-Priest Wilderness in the corner where Washington, Idaho and British Columbia meet, and some of the darkest night skies in the contiguous United States.

765 South Main Street, Colville, Washington, 99114, United States

Open year round, all hours. Sherman Pass on State Route 20 is kept open through the winter but requires traction devices or chains in snow conditions. Higher forest roads close from late autumn to early summer. Ranger stations keep business hours.
