Commonwealth War Cemetery, Chattogram
Memorial · Chattogram, Chattogram
The Second World War cemetery of Chattogram: some seven hundred graves from the Burma-front campaigns, laid out in the 1940s and kept since by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission to its unmistakable standard - clipped lawns, flowering borders and ranks of identical headstones climbing a gentle slope in the middle of the roaring city. The dead are British, Indian, African, Australian, Canadian, Dutch, Japanese and more; the register in the entrance alcove names them all. It is small, free, immaculate and quietly devastating - the port city's most serious half hour.
Badsha Mia Road, Dampara, Chattogram, Chattogram, Bangladesh
