Como Park Zoo and Conservatory

Zoo · Saint Paul, Minnesota

A zoo and a Victorian glasshouse sharing a site in a Saint Paul city park, and both are free — admission has never been charged, only requested as a donation, which for a collection of this quality is remarkable. The Marjorie McNeely Conservatory opened in 1915 and its Palm Dome, Sunken Garden and Fern Room are the best warm place in Minnesota in February. The zoo next to it keeps polar bears, big cats, gorillas and a long-running sea lion show, on a compact site that a family can do in an afternoon without collapsing.

1225 Estabrook Drive, Saint Paul, Minnesota, 55103, United States

Open daily year round and FREE, with a suggested donation — no ticket and no booking, though timed entry has been used at peak periods, so check before a summer weekend. The conservatory and zoo keep slightly different seasonal hours, generally 10:00 to 16:00 or 18:00. The sea lion show, Japanese Garden, carousel and Como Town amusement rides are seasonal; Como Town is the only ticketed attraction. Parking in the Como lots is charged in the busy season.
