Coney Island
Beach Town · Brooklyn, New York
The southern edge of Brooklyn, where America essentially invented the seaside amusement park in the 1880s and then spent a century half-demolishing it. What survives is a working public beach, a two-and-a-half-mile boardwalk, two amusement parks and three landmarked rides — the 1927 Cyclone, the 1920 Wonder Wheel and the 1939 Parachute Jump, which has not operated since 1968 and is lit as a monument.
Surf Avenue at West 10th Street, Brooklyn, New York, 11224, United States
THE BEACH AND BOARDWALK ARE OPEN AND FREE YEAR ROUND; swimming is permitted ONLY when lifeguards are on duty, roughly late May to early September. THE AMUSEMENT PARKS ARE SEASONAL — roughly Easter to Halloween, with WEEKENDS ONLY outside high summer, and Luna Park and Deno's Wonder Wheel Park run separate schedules and separate tickets. ⚠ NOT VERIFIED FOR THIS FILE.
