Convict Lake
Glacial Lake · Mammoth Lakes, California
A glacial lake in the Eastern Sierra with Mount Morrison rising four thousand feet straight out of the far shore, which is why it is one of the most photographed lakes in California despite being five minutes off Highway 395. It is named for a shootout in 1871 between a posse and a group of escaped convicts, which did not end well for either side.
