Corn Palace

Modern Architecture · Mitchell, South Dakota

A Moorish Revival arena in Mitchell whose exterior is decorated entirely in crop art - murals made from corn, grain and grasses, nailed up cob by cob and completely redesigned every year since 1892. It bills itself as the world's only corn palace and that appears to be true. It is also a functioning basketball arena and event venue, which is the part people do not expect, and it is free to walk into.

604 North Main Street, Mitchell, South Dakota, 57301, United States

FREE and open daily, with longer hours in summer and reduced hours in winter; closed some holidays. ⚠ IT IS A WORKING ARENA - basketball, concerts and events take place inside, and the interior may be closed to visitors when something is on. THE MURALS ARE REDESIGNED AND REBUILT EACH YEAR, usually late summer, so the building looks different depending when you come and is partly bare during the changeover.
