Cowtown Farmers Market

Flea Market · Pilesgrove, New Jersey

An enormous open-air market on the rodeo ground in Salem County that has run since 1926 and is ONE OF THE OLDEST CONTINUOUSLY OPERATING FLEA AND FARMERS MARKETS IN THE UNITED STATES. Several hundred outdoor vendors plus an indoor building, every TUESDAY AND SATURDAY, year round, in weather that is sometimes appalling. It is genuinely mixed — south Jersey produce, meat and eggs alongside tools, tyres, livestock supplies, clothing, secondhand furniture and a very large amount of stuff — and it is free to enter with free parking, forty minutes from Philadelphia.

780 Route 40, Pilesgrove, New Jersey, 08098, United States

FREE to enter with free parking. RUNS TUESDAYS AND SATURDAYS ONLY, YEAR ROUND, and the ground is empty on every other day. Opens around 8:00 and thins from mid-morning, with vendors packing up by early afternoon — THE BEST OF THE PRODUCE AND THE SECONDHAND GOODS IS GONE BY TEN. Saturday is the bigger and busier day; Tuesday is quieter. THE OUTDOOR FIELD SHRINKS CONSIDERABLY FROM DECEMBER TO MARCH as the market moves indoors. Many vendors are CASH ONLY, cash gets a better price, and the on-site machines charge a fee — bring small notes. Cash sales are final with no returns. Cowtown Rodeo on the same ground is a separate ticketed event on Saturday evenings from late May to late September.
